What Is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive brain training technique that uses real-time feedback to help the brain learn to function in a more balanced and efficient way. It is a specialized form of biofeedback that focuses on monitoring and training brainwave activity.

There are no shocks, stimulation, or medications involved. Neurofeedback simply provides the brain with information about its own activity, allowing it to self-correct and improve regulation.

How Neurofeedback Works

1. Measuring the Brain

Small sensors are placed on the scalp to measure brainwave patterns. These sensors only read activity—they do not send anything into the brain.

2. Real-Time Feedback

Brain activity is displayed through a game, movie, or animation. When the brain produces more regulated patterns, the screen responds positively (e.g., the movie plays clearly).

3. Learning Through Reinforcement

As the brain seeks rewarding outcomes, it naturally adjusts its patterns. This process is similar to how we learn physical and cognitive skills.

4. Long-Term Improvement

Most people notice early changes within 5–10 sessions, with more lasting improvements typically solidified between 20–40 sessions.
